After [[Dakar]]'s escapades in [[Jaelot]], [[Arithon]] requests the use of Anithael's instruments from [[Sethvir]] by way of the earth link. His intent is to speed [[Halliron]]'s voyage to [[Shand]] by sea rather than land. [[Sethvir]] grants this request, which permits Arithon access to blue water sailing, but has the side effect of reviving the old arts of navigation, restoring deep water shipping, taking the pressure off expanding coastal ports for galley havens, and taking further pressure off land-based trade since sail is faster.{{FootnoteLink|1}}.
