Morvain is a city on the Instrell Bay in Araethura, Rathain. It is known for its woven carpets.

The sea quarter is built up with small taverns and older stone boarding-houses, built under Charter Law. Other areas of the city are built without heed for Athera's Lanes.

Spoiler warning: Contains plot elements from Initiate's Trial.
  • Traithe maintains a winter town house here, a stately three-story building behind high walls.

Role in the Story

Ships of Merior

Third Age 5644: The people of Morvain give Lysaer's retinue wool bales, which he then trades for Falgaire glass, when he travels across the continent to restore Avenor.

Grand Conspiracy

Third Age 5653: Elaira resumes residence in Morvain, after several years in Araethura.

Third Age 5667: Feylind is in Morvain on the Summer Solstice, seeking out a deckhand who has gone ashore without leave. His injuries lead her to cross paths with Elaira, who offers a roundabout warning to Arithon about the Koriani plot and Cerebeld's priesthood.

Initiate's Trial

Third Age 5923: A shift in the resonance of the planet destroys the outbuildings in Morvain.

After Lysaer breaks his collarbone in a curse-driven incident, the apothecary in Morvain sets the bone.[1]

Lysaer and Daliana arrive in Morvain enroute to confronting the True Sect in Erdane. They rent a room in the Gull and Anchor while Lysaer battles a particularly strong incursion of the curse. During their stay, Selidie Prime triggers another Koriani fetch and Lysaer falls under the thrall of the curse. The Gull and Anchor burns down and Daliana escapes to Traithe's house with Kharadmon's assistance.

Destiny's Conflict

Third Age 5924: In late summer, Sethvir mentions that Asandir lent his escort to Traithe so he could leave Morvain.

  • Morvain was the birth place of Elaira, and also where she grew up as a disciple of thieves. After a run-in with the mayor's son, who was tormenting a dog, Elaira was claimed by the Koriani.

  1. This may be incorrect. At this point in the story, Lysaer is traveling west down Mathorn Road towards Narms.
