This archipelago is located approximately 100 leagues west of Westcliff on the Westland Sea. One of its islands, Corith, is a central location in the events of the story. Caincyr Island is one of the smaller islands. Following the invasion of the Mistwraith, common knowledge of these islands was lost.

Role in the Story

Spoiler warning: Contains plot elements from multiple books in the series.

Warhost of Vastmark

Third Age 5647: After the Vastmark campaign, Arithon find the Isles on a Paravian chart, and sails to Corith where he establishes a base.[1]

Fugitive Prince

Third Age 5648: The first hint of the Isles comes from a note in the margin of a merchant's lading list, found in Erdane's archives.

Third Age 5653: The Koriathain purposefully allow a book containing the Isles' location to fall into Lysaer's hands, as part of their plot to capture Arithon.[2] Lysaer and his war galleys quickly overrun the outpost at Corith and reclaim the Cariadwin as it sails in. While Lysaer's men wait out a storm in the caves, Arithon's stranded allies take back the Cariadwin and sabotage the rest of the vessels, stranding Lysaer on Corith.

  • The sea passage from Caithwood to the isles takes three weeks in a fishing smack against seasonal winds.
