Karfael is a port town on the Westland Sea in Korias, Tysan. It was not built until after the uprising, since its location is directly on top of the Second Lane. Karfael sits on the trade road between West End and Westwood Forest, at the mouth of Deepwater Ford. It is forty leagues north of Avenor as the crow flies, with the direct route crossing through free wilds south of West End.
The emblem of Karfael is a hammer and wheel blazon.

Ships of Merior
Third Age 5645: When Lysaer's own archers balk at shooting at him (to test the protective powers of his light mastery), he borrows a company of archers from Karfael. The Mayor of Karfael takes the opportunity to send along twenty-eight clan captives for hard labor, but Lysaer sets them free.
Third Age 5670: Karfael is the first town to learn that the Khadrim have escaped from Sorcerers' Preserve. Prince Kevor also mentions that an herb witch was burned to death by the wharf here. Following Prince Kevor's encounter with a Khadrim, a courier from Karfael is sent to inform Avenor. He is intercepted by Prince Ellaine before Cerebeld can intervene.
- The garrison of Karfael wears a muted tan surcoat.
- This fact appears in the Glossaries of Curse of the Mistwraith and Peril's Gate. It may be incorrect since Karfael is established in The Decoy.
