The Great Schism is an event that occurs in Third Age 5683.

Third Age 5683: Lysaer s'Ilessid turns apostate to the religion of the Light leading to an offshoot branch of faith known as the True Sect. The True Sect begins recording time based on Year of the Canon and relocates to Erdane where they establish the High Temple of the Light.
Third Age 5923: It is revealed that the Great Schism occurred after Sulfin Evend earned the Sunwheel priests' enmity for continuing to suppress their influence. Their machinations led to his poisoning. Comatose, nearly blinded, and crippled with palsy, he was condemned by Sunwheel decree. Lysaer faced ambush and pursuit to evacuate his friend to the safety of Etarra in Third Age 5683. He was forced to attack his pursuers with Light, leading to charges of apostasy.
